Review of the Maxi Cosi Pria 70

The Maxi Cosi Pria 70 is a relatively new car seat that is gaining in popularity for it‘s slim design and chic styling.  Dorel, Maxi-Cosi’s parent company, also owns Safety 1st, so you may see some similarities in the design features between the two brands; most notably, the Air Protect system which we will detail below.  We’ll show you what you need to know about this up-and-coming brand, but first a quick look from the Pria 70’s website:

What Maxi-Cosi Says:

“It fits.

The Pria 70 is designed to provide the right fit.  It fits little occupants in the TinyFit™ system, starting at only 4 pounds and keeping them cozy up to 22 pounds.  Remove the TinyFit system and it fits larger toddlers rear-facing from 18-40 pounds.  When they’re ready, turn it around to comfortably fit children up to 70 pounds forward-facing.  It fits your family for the first ride home from the hospital. It fits for those first rides to elementary school.

The Pria 70 fits your protective nature. It fits with Air Protect advanced side impact protection.  It fits with the safety of FlexTech for multi-directional crash energy management.  It fits from next generation crash testing techniques.  It fits for peace of mind.

The Pria 70 even fits for mom and dad. It fits with less space needed for the rear-facing seat, providing more leg room for front seat parents. It fits easily with OneClick LATCH connectors, deep recline angle adjustment and color coded installation systems. It fits a closer bond, for those who wish to keep babies in their arms. It fits with plush comfort for an enjoyable ride.

For the right fit, Pria 70.”

What We Say:
Maxi-Cosi uses the word “fit” 18 times in that one short article (I counted!)  So the question is, does it do what they say?  We’ll let you decide.  Here are the 3 features that we feel set the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 apart from the competition:

  • TinyFit System – This is a neat concept that we haven’t seen on the other car seats we’ve reviewed.  TinyFit is a padded insert that “cuddles” the child until they are large enough to ride in the seat by themselves.  The TinyFit insert is designed to work up to 22 lbs, which means most children will benefit from the extra padding for their entire first year.  On the other end of the spectrum, the TinyFit system can accommodate all by the smallest newborns, alleviating the need to rent a “car-bed” from the hospital for your first ride home.

Maxi Cosi Pria 70 Weight Limits:
TinyFit System:  4-22 lbs
Rear-Facing:  4-40 lbs
Front-Facing:  22-70 lbs

  • Air Protect – The Maxi Cosi Pria 70 shares this with it’s cousin, the Safety 1st Complete Air 65.  The Air Protect design includes extra padding for the child’s head and body, however the best part is the “precise release of air” that acts like an airbag, protecting your child‘s head in a side impact collision.
  • Deep-Recline Design – Finally an answer for parents with small backseats, or extra tall parents that are tired of being cramped by the car seat behind them.  The Pria 70 incorporates a bucket seat design that places your child lower and further back in the seat, reducing the amount of seat space required.  This keeps your child safe, while allowing you a few more inches of much-needed recline.

Maxi Cosi Pria 70 – What’s the takeaway?

As we said above, this seat is gaining popularity and has even been the subject of recent paparazzi sightings, as a few celebrities have been spotted using this seat.  Although relatively new on the scene, the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 is a full-featured car seat, in no small part due to the fact that Dorel has experience with the Safety 1st line.  Online parent reviews have been very positive, and for such a head-turning brand, the price is well within reason.  It currently comes in 3 colors:  Walnut Brown, Total Black or, my favorite, Intense Red.  If you’d like to see more parent reviews, click on our trusted link below to Amazon for the best price we’ve found anywhere online:
